I explained to him that some 6×6 engineered post are hollow on the inside. Once the fasteners start to get loose and the caulking separates, the water intrusion goes into the fastener hole and acts as a funnel. All that water goes to the inside of the post and that’s when the rotting begins. Well, this post happened to be surrounded by the grilling cabinetry.
